Welcome to my new obsession, the Nike+ Training Club app.
My gym membership is ending mid-April and I want to have an inexpensive, effective cross training option. In the past, I’ve tried DVDs (remember those?!), YouTube, online videos, and apps. None of them ever stuck - having a tiny apartment with a couple of dusty 3 lb weights isn't the best environment for most of these workouts.
I was already logged into the Nike+ app to sign up for Nike+ Run Club Long Runs (see my previous post) and decided to browse through the “body weight only” workouts. Since I was traveling and wouldn't have access to a gym, I figured I’d test the Nike+ Training Club app.
After staying in my Toulouse apartment for a few hours, I realized I could hear everything my neighbor above was saying (if I spoke French well – it was mostly lovely sounding gibberish to me). But this meant that I could not do burpees in the apartment.
Luckily, the apartment building had a very small courtyard. I downloaded the workout on wifi and headed down. Two minutes into the “5 minute body weight only benchmark" workout, I was panting and sweating. It took me 7:36, even when I skipped a few reps to whimper. It was HARD – good hard, but way harder than I expected. I loved it.
My NYC apartment is not as loud as the Toulouse Airbnb, but I’m not sure I’m ready to annoy my neighbors. I'm going to continue doing them at the gym and will update you once I figure out where I plan to do them come mid-April! Maybe I head outside? Suggestions please!
